Error when trying to send a report as PDF?

Hello

I am trying to send a report as a PDF, the email comes though OK but says the following:

Message from SolarWinds Report Scheduler Attached PDF export of: SERVERNAME/.../Report.aspx
Unable to convert the Web Page to PDF
Error: Could not generate the PDF document. Could not render the url. Could not get image from url.The URL is not accessible. Status code 0x800C0019.The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate is invalid.

I have omitted the server name.

I have tried using all the options such as 'retrieve printable version of this page', 'Send orion username/password in URL' and 'NT account login'

I tried changing it to send as a HTML but I didn't even recieve the email then!

Any ideas?

under SSL settings in your IIS , select "ignore" for client certificates.

Hello Noneforit,

Please check if your SSL certificate is valid and your https binding in IIS isn't set to one specific IP address. SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Export to PDF is not working.

My SSL certificate is valid, we generated it last month from our internal CA and no errors come up when accessing the website using https.

The binding is set to 'all unassigned'

I have managed to get the report to send me a PDF but the PDF is blank except:

Navigation to the webpage was canceled

What you can try:

Refresh the page.

I tried using every combination of login I could think of in all the available boxes but it won't work.

Chosing send as HTML does not even generate an email message!!

i face similar issue. I am using https, sending pdf report via email

when the pdf attachment is clicked it says "navigation to the webpage was cancelled". There are no certificate errors.

and html email doesnt work too.

Looks like no one managed to resolve the issue.

If anyone has done it, pls help.

To resolve this I did two things. One of which may not be required for your circumstances.

The thing you need to do is to use the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) in the URL for the report. Otherwise the job will receive a certificate error (you cannot see this as it's the job running in the background) and fail. Typically, the default URL name placed in the URL string for the job by the Wizard is the server name. This may or may not match the FQDN in the certificate. Typically it does not. For instance. My server name is SSORION. The FQDN on the certificate is NPM.UMASSP.EDU. When I run the job creation wizard, the name that goes the URL by default is https://ssorion/Orion/{the report name}. Since this does not match the FQDN in the cert, the system cannot access the report. If I manually change it to https://npm.umassp.edu/Orion/{The Report Name} in the job creation wizard and then select Use Current URL, it will fix this issue.

The second, and may not be required by your circumstances, you need a DNS or HOST entry to the local server address that also equals the FQDN. If you are running multiple DNS zones (we are), or NATTING your FQDN resolved IP address to a public address while the server is on a private address, this can be as easy as placing the name and IP address in the server host file. If you can do a NSLOOKUP on the server for the FQDN and it comes back to the correct address, this step should not be required. For example I have an entry in the servers HOST file that is "npm.umassp.edu. 192.168.X.X". The private DNS zone does not have an entry for npm.umassp.edu. The public DNS zone shows the public 69.16.X.X address.

This should resolve your issue if your job runs and does not create a PDF or HTML file and send via E-Mail. A means to test this is to turn off SSL and run the job. If it works fine and dandy, then this is most likely your issue.

This pointed me in the right direction. After enabling SSL it "broke" the reports and the email we received would only include the following text instead of the PDFs attachments we were expecting. "Unable to retrieve url: https://(server -name):443/Orion/Report.aspx?ReportID=53"

Clicking the link in the email would point me to a 404 error in my browser. But, if I copied the link and added the FQDN as (Server-name.my.domain.fixedit) , I was able to view the report successfully.

I found another thread that mentioned updating the WebSites table in the SW database to set the correct Port to '443' and the SSLEnabled value to '1'. In the WebSites table you will also see a ServerName field. After manually updating that to the FQDN the reports now run successfully.

Did this ever get resolved? After we switched Orion to use https the PDF creation stopped working for scheduled jobs. I can run the jobs and deliver the report URLs, but they don't appear to have a way to provide a report name, just a URL with a report number. In fact we have the same problem trying to send any printable report from the report scheduler. If you click the URL you will get the report, but it can't create the file to attach to the email.
