I have been recently assigned a network admin job coming from a help desk backround. Some of the hardships our help desk has is determining if a switch has went down because of a power failure or a fiber failure. I found something called "Dying Gasp" which is also known as the "power bit." I can not find any information or if catalyst ios's support this. Has the dying gasp been intergrated into cisco devices yet? Does anyone have an effect way of determining between a fiber outage and a power outage. If anyone has any information on this topic please respond it would greatley increase the up time of our network devices.
