When doing Network Discovery - host names not discovered

Question

When I am running a network discovery on a subnet - most of the hosts that

are discovered are turning up as "Unknown" device type.  And despite their

being in DNS - the Name field is blank.  See example output below.

Why is this?  These are largely Windows hosts running within VMWare.

Do you use NPM 10.2?

Are given nodes DNS-resolvable (that means are you able to ping them via their DNS name) from poller where discovery is being executed?

I am inputting all hostnames with no SNMP credentials.  It resolves all of the host names (70 of them), except for the same 10 every time.  Editing nodes when adding 500-600 at a time is not an option.

Why does it work on most, but not a select few?

If it is showing up as [Unknown] then it is only monitored by ICMP only. Orion will not resolve the IP Address to a Hostname as well if Orion is monitoring only via ICMP, but you can Edit the Node to change the Name.
