Adding Network Switches without all of the Interfaces ?

Is it possible to scan the network, by IP, for devices using a single OID string (1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0 - Device sysUpTimeInstance), without Solarwinds collecting all of the Interfaces attached ? Even a 24 port switch can have well over 30 monitorable items, but all I want to do is to monitor devices as to simply whether they are up or down.
