DHCP user experience monitor misleading indicator?

How can we actually make good use of DHCP user experience monitor?

Because in the Monitor Windows DHCP Server and DHCP User Experience Monitor on the Application Monitor template, the User experience is always showing as failed, even though the DHCP server is up and running.

I wonder if this alert is useful or not.

My goal is to be able to get the alert when the DHCP server service is about to run out of DHCP IP address available and when it is completely stopped for some unknown reason.

But back to your question, the DHCP user experience monitor "tests how long it takes a DHCP server to respond to a DHCP request." So you'll need to check to see if the response is taking longer than expected or if your polling engine simply isn't getting a response at all.

A lack of response might indicate that a firewall could be blocking DHCP requests from the network that your polling engine lives in.

Take a look at the application details page for your DHCP User Experience monitor. Mine shows a response time mean of approximately 25 ms, with the 95th percentile being at a 44 ms response time. What do you get?

Still, your stated goal is "to be able to get the alert when the DHCP server service is about to run out of DHCP IP address available and when it is completely stopped for some unknown reason." That will still happen if you have the DHCP Server monitoring template applied. This one component will simply tell you how quickly the DHCP server is responding to requests. It would be ideal to figure out why it's unhappy and resolve that, but if you really don't have time and just want to move on, you can safely remove this monitoring template from your DHCP server.

Which component of the DHCP User Experience Monitor is showing as failed? Can you resolve that specific failure or adjust its threshold to something that fits your environment?

Component DHCP User Experience Monitor of Application "Windows DHCP Server" on PRODDC06-VM is currently in a state of "Down".
