Orion NPM 9.5 - Wireless issues

We have upgraded to Orion NPM 9.5 and are running into issues in regards to wireless networking. We uninstalled our Wireless Module (which we just purchased, but that's another issue all together), and installed Orion NPM 9.5 without any issues. However, now we are running into issues in regards to those wireless access points and clients that are being discovered.

We have noticed the following errors:

Clients are not showing up with the correct names- We are getting names such as "00" or "<router name> for connected clients
SSID information is incorrect - It is showing clients connected to a specific SSID, with IP information from another (the correct) SSID or it is just blank.

It's a little disheartening that 1) The wireless module is gone (that we JUST bought) and 2) that the above features were working fine with the add-on module, but now they seem to be broken.

What is the current SP you are on? If you look at the footer of the web console you should see it. The current SP for 9.5 is SP5

Is this occuring with Thick/Autonomous AP's or with Controller/Thin AP's? Which vendor?

This is happening with Thick/Autonomous AP's, Cisco 1200 series... I am also seeing it on Cisco 871/877 wireless routers as well.

Hi Matt,

Could you open a support ticket with this and reference this Thwack thread so that we can get diagnostics from you?

We have seen the '00' before but that has actually been what the device is reporting to us as the user, but if this was working before for you, we can dig a little deeper.

Are there any instructions on how to get Cisco WLC, WISMs, LWAPPs configured in the new Wireless features of 9.5?

We have an Enterprise WiFi (no autonomous APs) and all our WAPs are managed in the WLC from the WISM Controllers. I'd love to see what information we could get out of Orion but I don't know what and where to configure.

You should just add the controller to NPM and it will pull the information including the thin AP's in it's first poll. Should not be anything for you to do besides adding the controller

Can you define “add the controller to NPM”?

I have the SNMP string configured in the 4 controllers, after doing a discovery for the management IP addresses, NPM tells me they are “unknown”.

On the WCS & in the Controller Templates, you need to specify the NPM's IP address as well as the SNMP string. Then you apply this template to all your controllers.
