I have VPN nodes that bounce frequently but I still wish to track them. I can think of a few ways around this but having a check box that excludes it from alerts like unpluggable interface would be awesome.
AAAAARRRRGGGGG Ahoy Donald--
Will mark this for the PM.

You could make a custom property for "VPN Device" an exclude these devices in the alert.
I considered suggesting this as well but realized why Donald probably hasn't done this already. In large or complex installations of Orion it becomes difficult to manage a very large list of custom properties as well as all of the logic associated with them in the alerts.
Don't get me wrong, I think the custom property combined with the alert logic is great in a lot of ways; however, sometimes it's nice to have a more simple solution from a management perspective.
I'll let the PM chime in on that as an FER. My concern is that if you start placing options that affect alerts in different places, it may complicate alert troubleshooting and application.
I know this isn't the beta forum but just out of curiosity, once node grouping becomes a production feature, would it be possible to group all his VPN devices into a group and then exclude them from alerting based on the group membership? That might be easier to manage in an enterprise environment than custom properties.
Hrm, I can see your point here and it's one I had not considered. Maybe an update or revamp to the Custom Properties system then?
