Problem with Active Directory application!!

I am attempting to assign the Active Directory template to a server and I am getting two different component errors when testing.

First one says, "Unable to connect to server 192.168.1.12 as user "apmtester"".

I get this error no matter what credential I use. What kind of user does this need to be?

Second error is:

"Unable to impersonate user "apmtester". This user must be a valid user on the Orion Server/Polling Engine."

I only get this error for the LDAP Version Script component. What kind of user is this referring to? Windows user or Orion web account?

Any help would be appreciated. This is eating my lunch!

Regarding connection issues, have you tried connecting to target machine using those credentials for example through Remote desktop from Orion server? Are you sure that user has appropriate permissions on target computer?

Many monitors in Active Directory template use WMI to poll data. Look at our WMI troubleshooting guide at http://www.solarwinds.com/support/apm/docs/APMWMITroubleshooting.pdf and try steps described at "Testing Remote WMI Connectivity" chapter. This way you can easily check that specified account has required permissions.

Hello Patriot,

First error generally means that provided credentials were rejected by target machine. If you use domain, enter username as "domain\username". What component gives you this error?

Your second error means that credentials that you use must be valid on target server AND on Orion server. Windows script monitor requires this to run correctly. If you have user "apmtest" with password "password", this user must exists/be valid on monitored machine AND on Orion server as well.

The template being used is the default Active Directory one and the "unable to connect as "apmmonitor" error occurs on all components except the LDAP Version Script. The error, "about apmmonitor being a valid user on the Orion Server/Polling Engine occurs only on the LDAP Version Script monitor.

May I humbly suggest that the error text be revised to be more specific. To say, "The user must be a valid user on the Orion Server/Polling Engine." does not exactly indicate that it is talking about BOTH the Orion server and the target node. Just a suggestion.

As for the first error, the format is indeed domain\username, so I'm not sure where that leaves me. Thanks.
