SQL User Experience Monitor - specify sql server name

I have an application server NodeA that has the Orion Agent.  I want to run an SQL from that node as a SAM monitor that returns a single statistic. That node is NOT the sql server.

1) am I missing something on the SQL user experience monitor where I could specify the sql server name?

2) do I need to instead do a powershell script?

3) other options?

the SQL user Experience monitor as I understand it needs to be assigned to the SQL server that is hosting the DB, if you need to test connections from that server to the SQL server then a powershell script is probably the best route to go.
