Best practice in monitoring Azure VM using Solarwinds?

Hi all,

Can anyone here please share the Best practice or the steps to properly monitor Azure VMs from OnPremise Solarwinds Orion platform with SAM?

Because the issue I'm having is that I keep on getting the below email alert simultaneously:

CRITICAL: The Following Node Has Gone Down
The Following Node is now Up

with an interval of 1 minute from down to up.

and using the builtin Cloud monitoring threshold

Try to monitor the Azure VM with the agent and then use the node's dynamic baseline / or static thresholds more specific to that entity. We disable the out of the box alerts and then setup ones more applicable to the environment to avoid this scenario.

@stevenstadel so how do you install the agent?

is it by push install via the OnPremise SolarWinds platform or manually double click the .EXE file inside the Azure VM.

There are a bunch of different ways depending on how many nodes you need to install the agent on and how your environment is setup. If you are only dealing with a few, using the Orion Web's Settings - All Settings - Manage Agents, or a manual install on the endpoint itself may be the quickest.

The documentation is great for outlining all the options, including using an MST and a GPO. That is how we do our installations for Azure with SCCM when the nodes are initially built.
