Inconsistent data retrieval from iLO interfaces

Hey all, I'm running NPM 10.1.1 and trying to pull data from iLO on my ProLiant servers but getting inconsistent results. From some servers I'm getting full data from the OS itself (NIC, CPU, Memory, Drives and such) and from the other servers I'm just getting the basic Average Response Time & Packet Loss data. I'm trying to find out why some servers are cooperating and some aren't and I can't find anything. I've checked firmware version, OS version, SNMP order, etc. and there's no pattern. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas? Suggestions? Recommendations?

Hi Jon--

NPM has a service pack for 10.1.1--here is more information. It is likely that if you call support for help, they will instruct you to download it.

Also, have you checked the SW Knowledge Base--when I search on it I find many entries for ProLiant--one of them might help you.

Hi Marie,

I did check the Knowledge Base but didn't find anything that was relevant to my issue. As to the Service Pack, I thought I had installed it but I can't find anything in my Orion settings that says the Service Pack is installed. I'll do that next.

I have the same issue - the HP ILO boards are being recognized as the OS of the server (which is incorrect - the ILO boards are not running Windows 2008, for example, the server is). And which each ILO board has it's own unique IP address and DNS name, the sonar scan is showing the DNS name of the server that the board is in, and not the DNS name of the ILO board. For example, it shows 10.64.124.25 as the IP, but does *not* return the DNS name that 10.64.124.25 returns (RIB-Win2008-server). Instead it shows the system name that the IP address of the OS on the server - i.e., it shows the name "Win2008-server", which is the DNS name returned for the IP 10.64.125.15.

Why does it do that? The scan is determining the IP address correctly, but (apparently) is not doing a DNS lookup on the IP address it found, instead it returns the system name of the the server. So the inventory is showing double the number of Windows servers I actually have.

SNMP is enabled and working on each ILO board, and on each server. And there is both a forward and reverse DNS entry for every IP address.

Might have partially answered it. On the iLO configuration, you can set "SNMP Pass Thru". If you do, it passes along the values from the OS as if they belonged to the iLO. If you disable that, then it properly shows iLO entries as type "Unknown". However, it names the entry as the IP address - i.e., it is not doing a DNS lookup to find the name.

Is that some setting I missed - to have the scan name what it finds by whatever name a DNS lookup finds for the IP address it found?

At least, now I can delete all my iLO entries (and all the licenses it was using for all the devices it found in the host) and re-scan. Looks like I might have to manually rename all the entries it finds, since it's not doing a DNS lookup on the IP address it finds.
