We are looking for a feature to allow NPM to poll the true status of our Cisco Lightweight Access Points though the Cisco Wireless Controller.
Gotcha I spoke with Dev and this is something we will have to look to further enhance in a future release.
Can you elaborate further. Orion NPM already supports Cisco Wireless Controllers, including the ability to pull the Thin AP's and their status as well as connected clients.
If you want to monitor them outside the controller, you can add them as ICMP only nodes into Orion.
Thank you for your response. We do not want to add them as ICMP devices. Is there another way? I have contacted supported and my response was as follows:
Ok, doing some research here is what I can say. We do not track Thin AP status in regards to it being up or down via the WLC. When we poll the WLC, if the WLC reports the AP to us, we mark it as available, and as such, show it as green. On the next poll, if the AP is not reported to us, we mark it as unavailable, showing it as red. If the AP is still showing green, this means the WLC is still reporting it to us. To get true status on the AP, you would need to add it into Orion as an ICMP only device.
