Alerts based upon groups

Hi All,

Got a quick question i'm hoping someone can help with?

Is it possible to configure an alert so that, if there are two nodes in a group, and a particular service, that runs individually on both servers fails, it will only then send out an alert

We presently monitor this service individually, but it runs in a HA configuration. As such, we want to cut down on the alerts happening out of hours and ignore instances where the alert triggers on only one server, but the other is still running fine

When you setup the alert , under trigger condition , the last option is Advanced Option - enable complex conditions (e.g. Alert me when (Application A on Server X is down) AND (Application B on Server Y is down)).

Cheers Bogdan, that looks like it checks for the same object to be down across the entire environment

Is there a way to define it so it will only trigger if they are all down on objects in the same group?

Bogdan is correct that complex alert conditions in would be a way to do this. When you turn on this option you basically get two sections for trigger actions and you can limit the scope of each section just like you would do with a single trigger condition. So the scope of the first trigger could be Server A and Service = <service> and service is down/critical/whatever and second trigger would be the same, but Server B.

Another way that a lot of customers set up this type of alerting is to create a group with only the components/applications that need to be alerted on as members and then you can set the group to report the best status so that every member in the group would need to be down before reporting the group as down, then set up an alert to alert if the group is down.
