Solarwinds.BusinessLayerHost.exe Process - NPM 9.5 SP4

Just started to see the Solarwinds.BusinessLayerHost.exe process start incrementing again. Currently using 700,00K of memory and counting. It was stable around 70K-80K before the update.

Just wondering where other users are at. When we were on SP2 it use to stall out at aroung 1.5G and we would have to restart services as it affected the web page, and then we moved on to SP3. I hope this is not the case. We upgraded yesterday 9/3/09 to SP4.

This morning I'm experiencing slow performance from Orion. I notice in our Orion webpage that of the Top 3 Nodes by Memory Used, Orion is number one at 79%. When I RDP into the Orion server and check processes, SWBusinessLayerHost.exe is at 840,000K.

Can this process be stopped and will it restart on it's own?

We *absolutely* are having this problem. I first noticed it at least in SP2, if not before. Always have seemed to have had memory issues, and each and every SP release seems to say they address those leaks in some form or another, but the problem never goes away.

Our situation:

- Currently we're at 9.5 SP4, updated from SP3 last Tuesday/Wednesday.

- As of Thursday the Physical Memory available was at 1.7 GB. The Solarwinds.BusinessLayerHost.exe process was around 100 MB memory utilization at the time.

- As of right now, the server is down ty 572 MB of available physical memory. The Solarwinds.BusinessLayerHost.exe process is now consuming a whopping 1.2 GB of memory.

- Performance starts to really drag after the services have been up 4 - 7 days, and many views simply stop functioning. We did some extensive DB cleanup per SW support last week (syslog/snmp trap cleanup, and some reindexing of netflow, among other things). Hasn't seemed to correct our issue. Just sent them diag's earlier today. (Ticket 115746, for SW folks)

- Getting sick of restarting the services 1 - 2 times per week because of a silly memory problem.

This is what support had us do. They performed this when we were on SP3 then when we upgraded SP4.... the process started to increment again and they sent us this procedure to perform.

Not sure if this would apply in your case. The process is has now been hovering around 130K-140K. It went as high as 1.7Gig prior to the procedure below.

1. Stop the Job engine and Job Scheduler.

2. search for and Rename the JobEngine35.sdf file to JobEngine35.sdf_old.

3. Take a copy of the JobEngine35-Blank.sdf and rename it to JobEngine35.sdf.

4. Do a right click on the new JobEngine35.sdf file and remove the Read only Attribute.

5. Start the jobScheduler and JobEngine and monitor the JobEngine process.

Our files were located at: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolarWinds\JobEngine\Data

Are you still seeing this problem? We've seen the same thing and had done the JobEngine replace earlier.

I'm not seeing it anymore after the the jobengine procedure was done.

We are still experiencing the issue for sure. After a reboot of the server on Tuesday (following the JobEngine suggestions, among some IIS server tweaks per SW supports' recommendations), the SolarWinds.BusinessLayerProcess.exe was using approximately 150-175 MB of memory. As of now, it is consuming 705 MB. The below image perfectly illustrates our memory leak, which shows memory utilization of our Orion server from the beginning of the month:
