AppInsight vs Application Monitor Templates

I am starting to delve into the configuration of SAM, but have a question as to the best practices, specifically the use case for standard application monitor templates vs AppInsight templates.

In particular, do you assign BOTH the AppInsight templates as well as the individual monitors, or is the AppInsight template a superset of potentially multiple standard monitors?

For example, when I am monitoring a web server, do I assign the AppInsight for IIS as well as the Internet Information Services template?  It seems that most, if not all of the latter are included in the former.

It becomes more muddy with the AppInsight for AD, where you also have the templates for the AD services and counters, as well as the security policy templates.  Are they both included in the AppInsight templates?

The appinsights are special because under the covers they rely on more complex scripted sets of data than you can normally achieve with the common components.  They don't necessarily have a 1 to 1 relationship with any particular standard template but they usually are the most complete kind of template you will have, so you don't need to overlap them with similar templates.  I find that once you learn the tool and learn your environment you won't use any of the standard templates anyway, as you will dial in on what you really need to know about and can remove anything extra.
