9.1 to 9.5 Upgrade. Nodes in System Manager Disappear but showing on web console

This afternoon, I upgraded our 9.1 NPM to the latest 9.5 version. This appeared to go well but has had the effect of removing the nodes from System Manager view completely, it looks like a fresh install. However the Web console presents all the nodes and the historical data no problem. NetPerfMon Database is on an Enterprise 2005 SQL box

Is there any kind of quick trick to getting the nodes redisplayed under system manager. If I add a new node in the web console it appears in the system manager and if I remove it then it removes OK. Its just that I can't see the original devicess... very strange.

I have a hot standy NPM server which appears to have upgraded OK also

I'm running NCM on the main NPM server and need to upgrade this to 5.5 at some stage but for now I just want NPM working again. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Have deleted and readded nodes and this has sorted it. Preferred this route to any other as the 9.1 system had only been in a few days prior to the release of 9.5 so I'm not too fussed about the loss of statistical data. Thanks

This functionality was removed from System Manager. There is no way to get it back. We're migrating everything to the web, and in that migration, we found we couldn't maintain the system manager node management a the same time.

Ok, I reinstalled the 9.5 application and this has brought the node list back into the system manager. I understand that I'll need to configure them from the web front end though. Only slight issue with that is the web front end is very slow.

I've just upgraded and lost all the devices in system manager.

This seems strange as I didn't read this in the documentation that it would happen.

I need it as the pc Orion is on is unbearable slow on the web console.

Do you think it would be worth me installing 9.5 again? I don't want to bugger it up even more though

I am pissed at 9.5 not only is my netflow not working, my custom reporting, and now no management for nodes but only thru the web.... I opened a urgent support ticket and nobody has got back to me.

This is very scary. Me too I'm pretty much system-manager-user than web console. I'm planning to upgrade my 9.1 to 9.5 but with issues arises like this........ I will hold off for the mean time =(

Mine is working fine at the moment post issues. My only concern is that if I currently have all my nodes showing in system manager and by design, 9.5 shouldn't have them displayed, how did I manage to get them back simply by reinstalling the app ?!

If I were doing this again, I'd either do a clean native 9.5 install or stick with 9.1 for a while. Like I say though mine is working fine. I logged a call yesterday for some issues I was having with alerting and had a response straight away. I logged the call through Solarwinds UK Platinum parter. Sorted it for me in no time, top service, sorry to here from others that you haven't had the same experience.

I had the same problem. Logged support call with Solarwinds and received the following fix after about 1 hour.

Please open the Orion database Manager and connect to your SQL server.
Expand your Orion database and do a right click on the Nodes table.

Do the following Query:

Update Nodes
Set EngineID = '1'

It shows that the ID has changed to -1 and therefore no nodes are pointing to your Engine.

I have now managed to get all my nodes imported back into NPM.

I logged a support call and Solarwinds were quick on the case.

My fix was to:

Thank you for cotnacting SolarWinds. First, stop all Orion services. From there go to Start > Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features and open the Monitor Polling Engines utility. Go to Servers > poller load balancing. Click on the first node, scroll to the end, hold shift, and click on the last node. Then go to Polling Engines > Move Selected Nodes to, and choose the server.

I did only have one node but the nodes didn't seem to be associated with the server so this fixed it.

My network atlas maps are still empty though and the web console is unusable so still have the call open.

I looked at the case, and a technician replied about an hour before your post. If you didn't receive the e-mail, please check any spam or junk mail folders you may have.

If the issue is urgent, it's usually recommended to call support. You'll get an even faster response than to a ticket.

What is the direct line for Solarwinds Urgent issues... It was this morning before anybody got back to me.. no email yesterday except automated email saying that my ticket was submitted..

Our company had to revert back to 9.1 SP5 , 9.5 just has way to many issues... We are going to wait for the first Fixpack before proceeding to 9.5

I am having the same issues! I tried calling no seems to be there! I have reinstalled it twcie and and I still can't view nothing!! I am very upset!! I hate this when SolarWinds pushes out a bad update. Never fails that it won't work properly or something goes wrong!

They reiterate that opening a ticket online is preferred and gets a faster response, but empirical evidence would suggest otherwise. I flatly refuse to pay the amount of money I do for software support and spend 10 minutes on a web form when all they need when I call is my SW customer number.

At least while Cisco has a web form, they do have a phone number as well, and priority 1 and 2 issues get transferred directly to an engineer.

I don't fill out web forms for them either, for approximately the same reason.

Well I amazingly got it fixed last Thursday, thanks to this forum and the person who previously had the problem. I haven't received a response back from SW tech support. But oh well I guess.
