Add node via SNMP without ICMP

Question

Hi guys,

I'm trying to add a Windows node via Settings -> Manage Nodes -> Add node and it's failing as it is using a Sonar Discovery.  The SNMP service on the box is configured to send traps to the Solarwinds box and to accept SNMP packets from it.

ICMP is blocked by a firewall and on the device and I suspect this is where the problem may lie.  Is it possible to discover a device via SNMP without using ICMP?  Some documentation suggests it is possible to select SNMP only (SolarWinds NPM Online Help ) however I don't see that option.  The versions we're running are: Orion Platform 2015.1.2 NCM 7.4, NPM 11.5.2

?? The Agent is the most secure method of managing nodes....

But, each environment is different I suppose.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Unfortunately due to security constraints running an agent is not possible.  And I'm not able discover the node be able to list resources....

I was trying to get away from allowing ICMP but I'm going allow it, to enable discovery and then disable it from listing resources.

Two good suggestions from cjfranca​ and smiffy85​. The setting cjfranca​ was referring to can be found if you go into the Node Details page of the node in question and choose List Resources from the Management resource:

Then change your status monitoring from ICMP to SNMP.
