How can I make my Orion NPM website use SSL?

I have tried the instructions in this post:

knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/.../Links provided to acknowledge alerts using the ${AcknowledgeURL}variable do not respect SSL

and now my Orion NPM site does not work on HTTP or HTTPS.

The site that does not work in not production, it is actually an APM eval site, but it is down.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Evaluations and Production have the same capabilities.

The link I sent you was missing the steps to enable SSL in IIS. This link will include links to Server 2003 or 2008 to setup IIS for https connections.

The following procedure does not describe the processes either of obtaining a required certificate or of generating a certificate signing request for a third-party certificate authority. Your Orion server must already have the required SSL certificate installed. Thanks Sean, but the link you supplied shows the exact same procedure as the link in my original post. I have done all of this - three times, and the site does not work at all now.

I just thought of something; perhaps this procedure does not work for an eval copy of Orion? What do you think?

I found an easier way to do this. In IIS bind your SolarWinds site to https (port 443) only. Then create a redirect site that is http (port 80) and make it a redirect to the https site. Now when people go to http://<your Orion site> they will automatically be redirected to https://<your Orion site>.

This is what we have been doing and it works very well.

UPDATE: I manually changed the WEBSITES table, line "SSLEnabled", to equal 0. I reran the config wizard and the site is now available - on port 80.

This is an IIS configuration issue and problems getting SSL working are usually related to Certification issues and ports already in use.

You dont say which version of Windows you are running, but I suggest you confirm that the SSL port 443 is not already in use and that your certificate (self signed or fully authed) is applied correctly.

Check error logs to determine why your website entry wont start, as if neither port is working it sounds as if the website entry is not starting.

Sorry to reply to old thread. I found this thread by searching around this forum and I have similar question to original post.

I followed the instruction on how to enable SSL on the documentation. However, after I go to https://my-ip-here, it gave me error 404. Any insight?
