Cannot start snmp trap service

Question

Sneaker had a solution to identify the service that is trying to get a hold of the solarwinds Trap Service. I followed his suggestion but there is absolutely no way to enable the trap service and get the PID for it. As soon as I enable it in Services it suddenly stops (about 1 sec or so). I stopped the main snmp service (windows) and started solarwinds trap service again but then it stops (about 1 sec or so). What else am I missing?

BTW, solarwinds syslog works great for this server I am testing but I have not had any luck with traps in the viewer. I tested the traps with another application (simpler than this): TrapReceiver GUI and all OID's show perfectly when I trigger alarms on the server.

Hi,

I faced this issue a bit earlier this year and for me, it was 2 things:

-GPO enabling Windows SNMP service (runnning each 20 min in my case)

- Windows SNMP service was in the dependency list of other services running on same server and in the action list, it was stated to start it if needed

You can try killing the process if its showing up in task manager even after stopping it. And then give a start...
