How to Monitor SQL Server counters with Orion NMP

Hi,

i've just istalled NPM trial.

I've been able up til now to monitor the cpu, the memory, and the diskspace of a server.

I would like to monitor some parameters on the SQL Server installed on this same server (like number of DBs, Space of each DB and so on).

I've not been able to do this (the counter for the SQL on the node is not available).

How can i do this? Is that possible?

I think what you need here is the SolarWinds Orionn Application Performance Monitor.

Unfortunately our trial has just run out, so I can't confirm if it will do exactly what you want. But I can say from our licenced NPM that NPM would not be the tool for your needs beyond CPU/Volumes.

Or, as a second thought that just struck me...

Create a custom SNMP Universal Poller and have a look at
MSSQLSERVER-MIB:mssqlServer (OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.4.1)

You might be able to get some useful stats from there, and you can write alerts and reports based on its findings.

(Of course, given this requires certain things to be active on the server and some DLLs to be available, you may need to do some playing around. I've just tried it on our MSSQL servers and got no results.)
