Including the VMCware VCenter Notes attribute in the alert email?

Hi All,

How can I include or pull the VM Notes information from the VCenter Notes attributes?

Because the email alert that is configured by the SAM at the moment it is unhelpful and confusing at best.

In my environment, I have already populated the Active Directory Description and VMware Vcenter Notes attributes to give the server more meaningful description, but not sure how to pull this information to SolarWinds.

VeeamONE https://www.veeam.com/virtualization-management-one-solution.html can do this, even in the Free community edition, so I wonder if the paid version of Solarwinds can do this or not.

It's been discussed with the PM, but at this moment VMAN doesn't collect notes or tags from vcenter. I've known people who wanted to get fancy and built their own integrations between orion and vcenter that synced tags with custom properties but that's the only way at this point.

OK, what about the Active Directory Description attributes?

Because it is hard to manually decipher or remember the server name - role when the alert triggers afterhours.

I would use Custom Properties. Export the AD values you care about into excel, and import them into the nodes custom properties (you would like make your own, but you could just toss it into existing ones.) I do this for anything that I want to show up in an alert email. Contact numbers for vendors, street address, anything that I don't want someone to have to look up. Most of what I sync is from our CMDB, but anything you can think of can go into a custom property. Then go back to you alerts and add the properties into the emails. If you run into issues, let me know. I don't typically use the import function anymore I like to script it and schedule it, but starting out get it done once with the built in import.
