UnDP - Cisco HSRP status

Hi all,

We have some HSRP paired routers and we'd like to know which is the Active/Standby...

So i thought id write a UnDP based on the cHsrpGrpStandbyState (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.106.1.2.1.1.15) MIB.

Only problem is it reports back a number (6 for active and 5 for standby...

Anyone have any idea's how can I turn the number in to text?

Hi jonchill,

If you chage the label to 'Use labels from a table colum' and use the 'cHsrpGrpVirtualAddr' colum this will now display the HSRP address

You should be able to set the format as enumeration and then click Map Values. That should get you what you need.

if you have multiple STATES like: (HSRP monitoring states 1:initial 2:learn 3:listen 4:speak 5:standby 6:active)

it appears the MAP VALUES only allows one entry. is this correct or should it allow more than one?

It should allow more than one. For instance, we monitor our Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers. We poll for the AP model that is a number like you mentioned. IE, 1 = ap1000, etc.

Now we are doing a get table to get the data but I've seen other places where people have done multiple enumerations like that. I believe in this case, it populated the data for me.

Edit: Just for grins, I used the OID posted above to try it. At first it seems you only have one box, but once you fill it in, another appears below it. I was able to add all 6 states as enumerations. I'm getting ready to poll a device to see how it works. Btw, I'm running 9.1SP5.

do you see any problem with what i'm using here? i only get one entry in the MAP VALUES.

(this is a new discovery for me and i appreciate your pointing it out...it should help me out a lot if i can only get passed this single entry.)

I had tried the enumeration but could never enter more than one value... Didnt realise you had to press enter to get another vlaue..

Great work, I've got the table sorted but when I look at it in NPM I have HSRP State Labe which displays a number which is meaning less but the HSRP state works fine, how can I display something meaningful in the first column?
