2 or more background images on one map
peterfons1
Hi,
I would like to know, if anybody knows whether it is possible to have 2 or more background images on one map? (I use Map Maker v. 7)
I have tried to look at the code for a map (the .OrionMap file), but I could not figure out where to include the images (or in another way the code I wrote did not work ;-)). Is there anybody who has a manual or guide to read a .OrionMap file?
Thanks
Peter

Not sure whether you can do this. But as a fix, why don't you paste the multiple maps into a single image file?

Yes, okay I could do that. The problem is just that I want to do it dynamically (the background images should be updated every day or so), so I want to avoid doing anything manually.

Peter,
Each NetPerfMon Map can only have one background.
But .... that doesn't mean you cannot have two large objects on a map that look like two background images and simple place all the nodes on top of those two large objects.
Here's one easy method of doing this:
Create a new Map with Map Maker.
Using whatever program you like (Visio, Internet Explorer, etc), select the first background image and copy it to the clipboard.
From within Map Maker right-click on the new map and select "Paste Special". Select "Paste the Image from the Clipboard as a New Object" and give the object a name. When you click the OK button, a new object will be created using your large image. Do this again for the second background image (or a third time, or a fourth....).
You now have two background images on the same map. Now place any Nodes or Interfaces on top of these two images.
Since the two background images are objects, they can be updated externally and the changes will automatically show up on the Orion web site. Map Make stores images that are pasted via "Paste Special" in the "C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Network Performance Monitor V7\Maps\NetObjects\Imported" directory. If you make a change to an image in this directory, the changes will automatically appear on the maps (after the map cache time-out that is).
So ... now you have created a Map with two background images.

Thank you very much, Don Yonce. That works perfect.
