Where is "Not Equal To"

Why is it there is not an option to select "Not Equal To" when creating a template and configuring thresholds? I'm trying to create a template where the rule is OK when the component is a particular value (eg. 2) and the static critical threshold when not equal to 2. There is everything except 'not equal to.'

You have to make a separate UnDP for each OID (much like you have separate component monitors), but that should only take maybe a minute each (if you know OID), or a bit longer with transformations.

After that you can then assign each UnDP to as many nodes as you want, and when you alert on them you only need to create one alert to alert you when one of the pollers fail, or you can create alerts for each one separately.

Thanks for taking the time to post. I just wanted to make sure I understand where you were looking as there are similar drop-downs in other parts of the application. The "not equally to" option is not included in this area. I will mark this for a PM to look at and see if it can be considered as a feature request. It helps is a lot to understand the use case. Also any words on what this option would allow you to do are helpful.

Hi,

Not sure what you are trying to do, but creating a custom undp, and then setting an advanced alert on the poller with part of the trigger being "Status is not equal to ___" could work in similar fashion.

Well in the case of the screenshot above, I'm trying to do SNMP monitoring on physical hardware for our servers. In this case I'm monitoring physical disks using the HP OID for disks. If the return value is 2, there are no issues with the physical disks on the server. But if the return value is not equal to 2, there is some sort of disk failure or degradation (eg. the RAID configuration is compromised)

I would have through 'not equal to' would have also come in useful when doing vbscripts and returning exit codes with particular values, and if the code does not equal a particular value then there is an issue.

Yeah, it definitely would be nice if they had it in APM, but to elaborate on what I was saying earlier (which should function in a similar manner)

You should be able to create a UnDP by:

Logging in to Orion
Going to Orion Universal Device Poller
Going to New Universal Device Poller
Add your OID/Name/Description

Then finish it, exit and create an advanced alert by:

Going to alert manage
Configure Alerts -> new
Add a name/descript/...
In trigger put these simple conditions for a Custom Node Poller
- Poller name is equal to HP Disk Poller (or whatever you named the UnDP)
- Status is not equal to 2

Then add the reset, and some trigger actions, and it should work.

On a similar note could you see if "does not contain" can get added to the simple trigger condition in alerts. e.g. "status does not contain /2/10"

yea... "does not contain" would be a nice addition... also in the report writer... its the only reason I use "none" and "not all"
