Hi all, I'm relatively new to SAM and have been tasked with creating a dashboard that will monitor both server and database availability across three SQL servers (all MS SQL 2012). Ideally, each separate servers information will be on one screen. One stat we have to report to senior management about is the availability of applications - this will help us do that. So, how can I: * Set up a dashboard that monitors more than one SQL server at a time? * Add database availability to the dashboard? I can find it if I go into each individual SAM application but I need to have an overview of availability by database on each server. Is it possible? Sorry if its been asked before - i did a search but it came back with nothing! Adam

Monitoring database uptime

Hi all,

I'm relatively new to SAM and have been tasked with creating a dashboard that will monitor both server and database availability across three SQL servers (all MS SQL 2012). Ideally, each separate servers information will be on one screen. One stat we have to report to senior management about is the availability of applications - this will help us do that.

So, how can I:

Set up a dashboard that monitors more than one SQL server at a time?
Add database availability to the dashboard? I can find it if I go into each individual SAM application but I need to have an overview of availability by database on each server.

Create a group in SAM which includes the SQL applications you're interested in. Then create a view which includes that group as part of it's limitations (say, for a new account for your DBAs).

With that set, you should be able to add resources which will only see results for those applications, including availability.

A summary view already exists for MSSQL. It's available under the "Applications" tab, from the "SQL Server" menu bar item.
