Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
What logging and snmp configuration do you use
pclements
I just got Orion and need to monitor my Cisco switches, routers, pix, and vpn. I know that Orion 7 has some limits as to traps, so I was wondering what everyone else is setting their configs to? Your help is greatly appreciated. Are you using both snmp and logging? Or just one.

Ok this is what I am doing now:
snmp-server host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx "communnity string"
snmp-server communnity "xxxxxxx" ro
snmp-server enable informs
snmp-server enable traps
logging xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
logging on
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I use the logging source-interface XXXX to insure the proper interface is reported to orion for syslog and traps, etc.

Here is an example of what I had placed on my routers. I added an access list to lock it down. Perhaps I need to add more, but it's worked for me. How do you plan on using the trap? Why are using the inform?
access-list 1 permit xxx.xxx.xx.xx
snmp-server community xxxxxxxxx RO 1

Pretty much as above but use an ACL to prevent unauthorised access
access-list 1 permit xx.xx.xx.xx
snmp-server community communitystring R0 1

Unless you are using another program for SNMP traps I see no need to have it configured (last I looked Orion only does Syslog).
I have my traps logged via syslog using the
logging x.x.x.x
and also don't forget to set your timestamps properly.
clock timezone xxx -x
clock summertime xxx recurring
and some variation of these commands to show datetimes and not uptimes
service timestamps debug datetime msec localtime show-timezone
service timestamps log datetime msec localtime show-timezone
