Appinsight SQL monitoring AlwaysOn Availability Groups

I'm trying to understand how Appinsight for SQL can monitor AlwaysOn Availability Groups (SQL 2014 & 2016). Unless I'm missing something (which could be), I can't find any way to alert on a failover from one node to another.

Monitoring the listener name itself doesn't provide any functionality since the listener will always be online as long as at least one node is up. I'd also like to know, in the alert, which node is now primary.

So the question is, is this possible to do with Appinsight?

Any insights to this. We are moving all of our SQL servers to Alwayson and would love to get these monitored

At this point we monitor our main MS SQL servers and DBs via DPA which also supports AG (including Solarwinds database). Also, we monitor each SQL server node via Solarwinds Agent, so between the two monitoring types it's fairly easy to tell what is what. We're still on NPM 12.2 & SAM 6.5 so don't have access to the latest application templates. Will know more once we upgrade Solarwinds platform to the latest version.

Nothing has changed in the appinsight template lately. There's nothing specific in the appinsight template to correlate AG stuff yet, I've been rolling my own sql scripts as a separate template on my nodes and listeners and I use the info from that to spin up some other templates with scripts. The whole thing is very complicated and I look forward to the day when they build that into the Appinsight template natively.
