Monitoring HP Lefthands in NPM

We have a number oh HP P4000 Lefhand's currently running SAN i/Q 8.1 and 8.5 (yes I know 9.5 is out but we not got to it yet) anyway, I found www.google.co.uk/url however that deals with Solarwinds 8 and we are on 10 point something.

Does anyone have a guide on how to get our Lefhands into Solarwinds 10.something?

From the document, it is just a general method of enabling SNMP on HP Lefthand, and to set Orion NPM to monitor the Node (IP) of the Lefthand using SNMP.

After the Lefthand is added to Orion NPM as a SNMP-enabled Node, you can use the Universal Device Poller (which replaces the now defunct Custom Poller as per document).

There is no exact guide - as the document you shared is from HP.

But the steps should be as follow:

1. Enable SNMP on HP Lefthand

2. Ensure that there are no firewall or ACL blocking communication of UDP/161 from Orion NPM to Lefthand (also ensure that the return traffic is allowed)

3. Add the Node to Orion NPM (ensure that you fill set it as a SNMP Node, and input the corresponding community string)

4. Do a "List Resources" and you should see the basic information (e.g. Interfaces, etc.)

5. To monitor those OIDs that are indicated in the Lefthand (based on your requirements), you will just have to follow the Video Tutorial for Universal Device Poller (UnDP): Create a Universal Device Poller (UnDP) in the Orion Platform - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support

Note that if you see a prompt indicating that the OID is not supported. There is a high possibility that the OID is not responding from the SNMP-agent of the HP Lefthand.

You will have to do a snmpwalk against the Lefthand, and try to check from the snmpwalk results to see if the OID that you are attempting to monitor using UnDP: http://knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/kb/questions/3145/

If it is true that the OID that you are looking for is not showing up in the snmpwalk results, you will have to check it out with the device vendor - HP in this case.
