How to properly monitor clustered file servers

I'm looking for advice on how to setup monitoring for clustered file servers, for monitoring the server itself as well as the cluster health as well.

For this setup i have say servers TEST-A.domain.local and TEST-B.domain.local as the physical servers and the VIP points to just TEST.domain.local

Both servers of course have their own C:\ drive and then share an E:\ drive between them. 

What would be the best way to setup monitoring so that i get information on each host and also be able to monitor the E:\ drive regardless of which host is the current active node, without causing a bunch of false alerts in the system?

I also want to take advantage of the SAM template for cluster health monitoring so where would this be applied as well?

What I do for clusters is to monitor each host directly for updtime, compute, local drives and so on, but add another node for the cluster name, via the VIP.

For the node which represents the cluster (Test.domain.local in your example), exclude any resources which are being monitored via the host nodes already (the C:\, memory etc), including only those which are cluster resources (the E:\, for instance).

Finally, assign your SAM temples to the cluster node, and jobs a good 'un!
