AllInterfacesTraffic "Custom SQL filter is incorrectly formated." Error

The AllInterfacesTraffic resource shows only the error "Custom SQL filter is incorrectly formated."

There is no filter set in ResourceProperties for this one.

It looks like this is since the update to 9.5 but not confirmed.

Did somebody else experience that?

SW support:

The development team has gotten back and stated that they are able to replicate and has a solution for the problem encountered.

There will be some changes to the NPM SQL DB, and thus there will be a need to backup the database before proceeding with the recommendations.

If you are pretty familiar with running SQL queries, just run the following against the NPM SQL instance (default: NetPerfMon) using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express: Delete From dbo.ResourceProperties Where ResourceID=0

Launch Database Manager
(Start > Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Manager)
Expand SQL servers
Locate NPM SQL instance (default: NetPerfMon)
(Right+Click) Any table below NPM SQL instance > Query Table
(Paste) Delete From ResourceProperties where ResourceID=0

I experienced a similar issue when trying to sort by InterfaceIndex using various resources. Maybe yours is the same.

I found that the following entry in the 'PropertyValue' column of the ResourceProperties table in the database was causing my issue:

Interfaces.InterfaceIndex:Interface Index,Interfaces.Status DESC:Interface Status,Interfaces.Caption:Interface Name,Interfaces.InterfaceTypeDescription:Type of Interface

When I replaced it with this:

Interfaces.Index:Interface Index,Interfaces.Status DESC:Interface Status,Interfaces.Caption:Interface Name,Interfaces.InterfaceTypeDescription:Type of Interface

my issue was resolved.

Thx for the tip.

For the resources showing the error we have no PropertyName sort or sortfields in ResourceProperties defined.

I tried to insert the rows in ResourceProperties like you descriped - didn't make any difference.

So that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Unfortunately, a variety of issues can cause this error, so while someone else's fix might be the same as yours, it is not guaranteed. The best route is to open a support ticket so we can look at your exact error and provide you a change.

If you want to find the error yourself you can look for the AllInterfaces.aspx in your OrionWeb.log file located in:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion

or in 2008

C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion

Or you can post that file here and I can take a quick glance to see if I can find the error or if we'll need a full diagnostics.

the error seems not be logged in OrionWeb.log.

I had a similar problem which turned out to be a couple of things. First NPM 9.5 SP1 incorrectly handled my advanced SQL filter and that issue was a documented fix for SP2. Service Pack 2 indeed did fix that issue.

The other issue was that my SQL statements were incorrectly formatted. The easiest approach i found was to setup the entire filter as a report in report writer, then once it worked there as a report I clicked on show SQL for the report.

Copying the SQL from there to notepad and making it one continuous line so that it could be pasted into the filter nodes (SQL) section of the web resource.

That corrected my particular issues, but as it was stated above there are many possible scenarios where this error can be seen.
