Two queries before i buy this software

Hello men,

I am planning to buy or rather comparing some similar softwares. I have the following doubts can someone worked on this help...

1.Can we create a ''Monitor only"" login for certain users so that they can just see the Network Map (coz i dont want the operations guys to edit and play around with the settings)

2.Can we make the Connected line color turn red when a particular interface goes down.. imagine a single router has multiple connections and we want to see which link went down! )

Create a single column page with the same width as your Plasma screen resolution.
Once the web page is displayed, then hit F11 and it will be displayed full screen.

As for the logout timer, if you use Windows Pass-through authentication, and the PC is logged in with the Windows AD userid assigned to this custom view, the session will never time-out.

Yes, you can create custiom views which display items of your choosing.

An older tutorial demonstrates this here....

From within Map Maker if have you assigned the line to represent an interface on a device this will change colors based on status.

Two part answer here:

Yes, you can define a Menu Bar that has only a Map view and assign those users to that Menu

Yes. There is a check box under Account Views for Allow View Customization, that will limit the individual users abilities.

Yes, By adding the Interface(s) to the map and then connecting them individually. You have to "split" the connection on the map by adding an empty object between the two inter connected interfaces, then assign each side of the connection to its respective interface...

i saw the demo- now that brings another question

I want to give only the Map to my operations staff, they will project on a plasma. there wont be a keyboard or mouse and this will run 365 days.

My Question is can i give a ''full screen Map only'' for a user and it shud work untouched for many days..no time outs no refresh required ?

Yes, you can customize the size of the map changing the sizes of the rows and columns on the screen. In your case, make column 1 lets say 1000, and column B ZERO, the only item you would have on the page would be the map and with a little tweaking it could fit your plasma perfect.

You will want to setup a "console" userID in Orion, assign it a Custom Menu that has the Map Only; then log into Orion from the PC that feeds the Plasma display with that userID.

Here is the kicker with the current release of Orion (8.5.1 SP3): the largest/longest login time is 24 hours. That has been changed in Ver 9.0. No firm release date on ver 9.0, but I imagine it will be soon... ;-)

Refresh time is a global Orion setting, meaning that all clients have the same refresh time (which is adjustable, yet global); relative to when the individual session started. My question to you would be: Why would you not want the map to ever refresh with the current status of the nodes displayed on the map?
