Monitoring SolarWinds Environment

Hey folks,

We have had a few cases where our monitoring has stopped working. Usually its because the subnet our monitoring environment is on has gone down for whatever reason. Well Ive been trying to find a way to monitor my SolarWinds environment in case of an outage. All Ive been able to do so far is write a little script that pings the orion server and tries to connect connect to the db. If anything fails I get a text. I am curious as to what yall do though

Sounds possible, but it would have to be seperate from Orion, as by the time it has lost its DB connection you have lost everything.

You could create a PowerShell script that would run a SQL query against your DB  (somehting simple like SELECT TOP 1 Caption FROM Nodes) from your Orion server and if it fails, then send an email to your Support when the query fails.

Then run this with Windows Scheduler to run every X minutes.

Unless there is some other events that you can pick up in your environment, before the DB disappears, that you can create an alert from?
