Orion 8.1 install\migration 'this is not an Orion Database'

Hi,

We are migrating from orion 5.0 to 8.1. I have backed up the database & restored the database on the new server with 8.1 installed. I have attatched the database but now when I run the config wizard and goto setup database it is listed but when I try to connect I get the following error.

Error connecting to NetPerfMon

The Database is not an Orion Database

Invalid object name 'ViewsByDeviceType'

and an OK button

Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

You cannot upgrade from 5.0 to 8.1- The DB Architecture was completely changed for 8.1 and therefore the DB problem.

You will need to upgrade up to 7.8.5 first-then to 8.5

Thanks for the help - that explains a lot!

So my best bet is to upgrade 5.0 on my old server to 7.8.5 then do the database backup then copy it accross to the new server then do the restore & point 8.1 at it (I'll probably then upgrade to 8.5?)

edit - it's actually 7.7 we are running on the old one not 5 (it was upgraded from 5 a while back) I've raised a support ticket to get 7.8.5 added to our portal.

You are on the right track. Get a license provisioned from support for the v 7.85= then backup the Db= and Maps/reports folder just to be safe .-upgrade to 8.5-and any modules that you might have as well.
