Monitor a Service

Im a noob so please forgive me, I did a search in the forums as well as the documentation. I am trying to monitor a service on a 2003 server I have some 3rd party software installed and I want to monitor if its up and if not, start it. How would I do that.

 

I have NPM 9.5 APM v3 Thanks for any help.

You already have Orion APM, which is what you need to monitor services. Orion APM lets you browse a server node for services, and then lists the services so that you can select the ones you want to monitor.

For the precise steps, look at the To create a new template using the browsing method procedure on the Creating New Templates help page.

Remember that picking the services doesn't immediately start monitoring. What you're doing is first creating a template that monitors your service. After you create the template, you then assign it to the server. Some customers find it a bit strange that you have to assign the template to the server you just used to create the template, so I thought I'd clarify that.
