NPM 9.5 SP2 stops collecting Data, but polling engine correctly shows up / down nodes.

Oddness with SolarWinds 9.5 SP2

Ticket already opened: Case #108232 - "NPM stops collecting data.

Windows 2008 64-bit
Intel Xeon E5540 @2.53GHz (2 processors)
8 GB RAM

SQL 2008 on seperate server.

Using the standard graph Total Bytes Transferd over Entire Network.
I noticed that the graph will start displaying 0.
It will continue to do so untill I stop and start the SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor from the Orion Service Manager. After restart, data is missing between the time of 0 data to the restart.

At first I thought it was an issue with the polling engine. But sites that go down or come back up are reflecting on the down nodes list. It just seems that SolarWinds is not collecting coalating data that should report from the site. Stopping and restarting the service corrects the issue.

The issue does not occur at a regular interval. It could be a couple of hours, or days. Usualy it occurs at least once in a 48 hour period.

I had a similiar issue. Well I should say have. I am actually in the process of putting it back on 2003. There is a known issue with 2008 and SolarWinds where SNMP packets will get dropped under certain conditions, IE polling just stops working.

Might be your issue might not be but I am back on 2003 at this time for pollers as per their advice.

Thanks for the response. It looks like tech support is going down that path as well.

I have to say, I am getting rather frustrated with the level of response from the Solarwinds team during the 9.5 release. With the numerous bugs, rush to get patch out that did not resolve well known show stopping issues.

I even called in to solarwinds to ensure there should be no "known" issue with running solarwinds on Win 2008. Of course I was told not at all about what you mentioned.

I've been working with them on this for the last month and a half. I'm going to be going back to 2003 on Friday as I don't have any more time to troubleshoot with the developers. It sounds like it's affecting quite a few people. I was hoping for a fix before Friday but, dosn't look like that's going to happen!

We felt the same pain so i know where you are coming from.

Just to let you know our change to 2003 seems to have done the trick and we are polling without a hitch now.

Im having the same problem and my NPM poller is on Server 2003.

Frustrated as well. lack of confidence in this products ability to monitor our production environment is circling the drain. I look like an idiot to management and my peers as I am the sole person that sets up monitoring for my entire IT organization.

TGhosh, I looked up your case and someone from Support should be contacting you shortly to look into your issue and see what is going on.

For everyone else on the thread, we are actively looking into this issue in general to determine the issue/s. With our internal testing we had no issues with Windows 2008 that caused this behavior ya'll have described, however, we have developers researching and investigating this further.

I am having this same issue as well. I am running windows 2008 server as well as SQL server 2008. I just noticed after i upgraded some switches and their SNMP discovered information never changed.
