Last Boot Alert

Why does not the "Last Boot" alerts reset? And why does old things all of a sudden pop up?

I have had "Last boot" activated for 2 weeks and all of a sudden it reports that one of my routers last rebooted 2004-01-15. Why?

I had the same problem until I upgraded to the latest version at their recommendation. Sounded like a known problem.

"Last Boot" is determined via the SNMP variable RFC1213-MIB:sysUpTime 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3
This variable is a 32 bit counter of the number of 100ths of a second since the device booted.

If you do the math, you will see that this counter will wrap in about 500 days. Therefore, you may get a stray
reboot alert if the device has been up for 500 days.

Later versions (7.5) or Orion has special code to try and determine if the device booted or the counter wrapped.
This special code is still not exact. It works most of the time, but you may still get a rouge reboot alert.

Annoying isn't it. If you go to manage your alerts, then untick the reboot alert, click done, then go back in an re-enable it, that'll clear it from the alerts page.
