Network Performance Monitor Administrator Guide : Installing SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor : Orion NPM Requirements
SolarWinds recommends installing Orion NPM on its own server, with the Orion database hosted separately, on its own SQL Server. Installations of multiple Orion servers, including NPM, Orion Application Performance Monitor, and Orion Network Configuration Manager using the same database are not supported. For more information, see “Orion Requirements”.

SolarWinds recommends installing Orion and your SQL Server on separate servers. Installations of multiple NPM servers using the same database are not supported

The above needs clarification:
While I understand having the SQL instance on separate server from the Orion applications, NPM, APM, NCM to best performance. Legacy documentation allowed NCM to reside on on the database server while NPM was on a separate one. Is this still the case? or will any legacy installs will need the have a dedicated SQL Server?
Sentence with " recommends that you maintain your SQL Server database on a separate physical server." should provide links to KB: Requirements for Hosting an Orion Database on a Virtual Server

Statement: "Installations of multiple Orion servers, including NPM, Orion Application Performance Monitor, and Orion Network Configuration Manager using the same database are not supported" or "multiple NPM servers using same database" is confusing as follow on from previous sentence and because APM module uses the same database as NPM, as NPM is required on the same server for APM to function. Wording should reflect:
While multiple Orion applications can use the same SQL server or instance, each application scope must use its own database:
* 1 database per primary NPM poller license, scope includes: primary poller, APM module, additional/failover pollers, and additional Webconsole)
* 1 database per NCM/Cirrus license scope
