Monitoring Lotus Domino

Hi All,

We were using NPM to monitor our network & recently decided to add the APM module, when tried to add the Lotus Domino to APM it shows as unknown.

we tried to add the the application using the template given by the solarwinds, the server which hosts the lotus Domino has been added successfully to NPM. In the APM admin guide they says no credential is required in order to add the lotus Domino, but when adding it to APM, solarwinds doesn't allow to add it without credentials.. we have given the local and domain credentials but both fails, we couldn't find any feature on lotus domino to create credentials.

how can we add Lotus Dominos to APM successfully?

What are the credentials we need to give?

Thanks for shedding a light on monitoring Dominos,

I found out an easier way which doesn't involves installing SNMP proxy, following are the steps we followed.

on the dominos server

1. net stop snmp

2.net stop lnsnmp

3.lnsnmp -Sc

4.net start lnsnmp

5.net start snmp

& on the dominos console

6. load quryset

this way of config doesn't need changing SNMP ports or registry installations

Hello sphinx,

credentials really doesn't matter for Lotus Domino. They are needed just because APM is created like that.

To monitor Lotus Domino server you have to enable SNMP agent for it. All monitoring of Lotus is done through SNMP so server must expose these data.

we have already started the snmp agent on dominos, but still the result is same. windows firewall is also stopped.

Is SNMP agent bound to port 161? Monitors use same port as set during "Add Node" operation in NPM. Because you probably have standard SNMP agent on port 161 you have to setup some SNMP proxy to be able to use both system SNMP and Lotus SNMP agents on one port.

For Windows there is proxy agent on http://snmppfw.sourceforge.net.

we downloaded the zip file & compleated the registry installation by double clicking the registry installation file.( there was a setup file but it wasn't an exe). then we added the node to APM, but still its showing all the lotus Dominos monitors in grey color.

Have you followed instructions in INSTALL file? Have you set registry by hand to correct values? You have to specify OID subtree to which proxy should route requests. For Lotus domino this subtree is .1.3.6.1.4.1.334.72

I would suggest this:

- Start SNMP agent on Lotus Domino on some custom port (for ex. 1666)

- Use some SNMP tool and try to connect to SNMP agent of Lotus on 1666 (if you have Solarwinds Enginers Toolset, there are few SNMP tool for this)

- if this works, set registry according to your configuration:

- restart Windows SNMP service

- use SNMP tool and try to connect to windows SNMP agent on standard port 161 and query for some Lotus OID (for ex. 1.3.6.1.4.1.334.72.1.1.6.3.19.0 - available resources)

- if this works, it should also work in APM, if not, you have probably configured something incorrectly

When I go to OID=1.3.6.1.4.1.334.72.1.1.4.4 (lnTotalRoutedMail) then I have info that it refers to 'Total number of mail messages routed since the server started'.

But I'd like to have below:
lnAverageMailSizeDelivered - OID=1.3.6.1.4.1.334.72.1.1.4.11
lnTotalKBTransferred - OID=1.3.6.1.4.1.334.72.1.1.4.18
lnTransferredMail - OID=1.3.6.1.4.1.334.72.1.1.4.5

Do they show figures '.. since the server started' ?

The same question for table NOTES-MIB:lnAllStatsTable

I need to report e-mails statistics per month using SNMP but I'm not sure how are calculated exact values from particular OIDs of Domino MIB statistics. Is there any accessible documentation for that?
