Nope. I was hoping someone from SW would post a link to the tentative release notes so I have an idea what I'm getting into.

Fortunately, I've had lots of luck with incremental releases so far.

Running 7.3Beta since Sunday(7/18)... No problems, and the False Positive problem appears to be fixed.

7.3 was officially released yesterday - July 27th.

Network Discovery

Network Discovery - Bug ID Number 437 was resolved. More details at support.solarwinds.net/.../ProblemDetail.cfm

Polling Engine

Polling engine altered to allow a configurable number of ICMP retries before unsuccessful ICMP status messages are marked as packet loss. Default setting is one retry (configurable with registry setting).

I still show 7.2.2 as the latest download available when logged into the customer downloads section.

I loaded it yesterday and have had no issues with it. I know a number of folks had reported poller issues (false positives) which it supposedly resolved.

I'd never had poller issues until this week when I got inspired to build a bunch of network maps and voila, poller issues. Devices on the same segment were going green/yellow over and over.

Anyhow, 7.3 fixed that and is stable so far.

It was easier since I didn't need to reboot after running the setup.

But I think the config wizard should perhaps be tweaked to import previous settings within upgrade installations, without having to go through all the hooplah.

Did anyone else notice that the actual reporting revision is 7.2.x for all components? Considering the paltry release notes, I can't help but wonder what kind of big things are brewing for the next major release. They probably should have called this one 7.2.4.

Just upgraded to 7.3 and it seems to of solved the false positives on packet loss. One of the changes that is mentioned in the Release notes is the ability to change the number of retries SNMP takes before it reports packet loss. It mentions a registery setting but thats it, checked the admin guide and thats still 7.1.

Does anyone know the registry setting?

I've looked through the registery and can't find anything obvious. As good as this product is, Solarwinds sure lacks on documentation.

What registry value do I need to alter to change the ICMP retries?

In order to allow for multiple ping attempts to be tried before a missed ping is counted a variable needs to be added to the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolarWinds.Net\SWNetPerfMon\Settings. the entry needs to be called Response Time Retry Count, and is set to a numeric value from 0 to X (replace X with the value you would prefer).
