Why does WMI require local admin rights? this is in direct violation of our security policy. I have seen other tools only need read access(pnet).
Are there alternavtive ways to setup the WMI account so local admin rights are not needed?
A few suggestions in these threads-here and here.
that is some of what i am looking for, but we do no allow local accounts, can these changes be done via AD? I am a unix guy so not so familiar with AD. We would use a service account to do this wmi calls... quite frankly i am not sure who solarwinds is in the federal space as there default methods for obatining monitoring info is fairly insecure...
The next version of APM that will be released in the near future (we're currently in the Release Candidate phase) supports AD integration. If you're a current customer and your maintenance is up to date send your SWID to craig.mcdonald@solarwinds.com and I can get you set up with the RC.
