TTL expired in transit.

I've noticed on occasion that we have sites that are down, but they are reported as up by NPM. I think it has something to do with the fact that, under certain circumstances, Orion does get a reply, but not from the device. There is another device that reports "TTL expired in transit."

Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a workaround?

Is this a ping only node or does it have SNMP monitoring as well?  What version of NPM are you using?

It almost sounds like you have a convergence issue with your network.  It sounds like a ping got stuck in a kind of loop where eventually it's time to live expired and the router that was the last hop reported back.
