Cloud/AWS Monitoring

Im looking for some subjective thoughts around SolarWinds and cloud monitoring. I have a close colleague in the monitoring space where his company has just decided to move a majority of their apps into the AWS cloud. He reached out to me looking for advice and I can honestly say I have no idea how prevalent or successful SolarWinds will be in the cloud. The pessimist in me says Amazon, Google, MS and the other big players have no intention on making it easy or efficient for SolarWinds to monitor.

Any thoughts/ideas ? I have a good feeling SolarWinds knows very well how important cloud monitoring is. If the trends I am seeing continue, I would expect a majority of all servers and apps to be in the cloud in the next 10 years. What does something like that do to a module like SAM ? If these big players don't let SolarWinds in, I expect a large number of us will be looking for new roles in the IT industry.

I am not trying to scare people, I want an honest conversation around this topic. I think the conversation only helps those that participate.
