SolarWinds Environment in Production

I currently manage 1 SLX Poller, 4 Polling Engines, 2 Web Servers and the SQL database in my SolarWinds environment. As of yesterday (6/18/2009) at 10:00 the environment went in to production. It is monitoring around 15,000 elements. I have set up numerous Advanced Alerts and Custom MIBs. It has taken a lot of work and time to get the environment to work perfectly along side our other monitoring and ticketing applications; however, currently is it running perfectly. The environment is 100% VM including the SQL Server.

Would you be willing to post the answers to the following questions for my research?

- What is the number and speed of CPU; amount of RAM; type of storage array for each of your SolarWinds servers?

- what is the typical CPU Load and percent memory used for each server?

- how many elements are being monitored by each poller?

- what Orion modules are installed?

- if applicable, how many NetFlow sources are you monitoring?

- what are the ICMP and SNMP intervals set to and what are your polls per second for ICMP and SNMP?

I realize this is a lot of questions. Thanks for your response.

I am interested in this kind of data to determine what kind of performance data users are seeing with their SW servers.

We have something similar but we are seeing sub-par performance. We are adding about 500 more servers to NPM and probably APM. I was looking for ways to improve our performance since we will be rolling custom imterfaces our to business line application owners and all of IT (some 200 people).

We have (all physical boxes or blades):

1 dedicated SQL server

1 additional web server (web is turned off on main box to take load off)

1 additional poller (8000 elements)

main server (3000 elements)

NCM server

We run:

NPM - 12500 elements

APM - 1700 elements with more to come

NCM - 250 devices

NTA - 250 interfaces

My main concerns are that to support 50 or more concurrent users we may need another web server and an additional poller. The added poller would take over the 3000 elements from the main box leaving it to poll just APM and of course the current additional poller.

I also am considering bumping our SQL server.

can you share with us some details regarding the server specifications for your environment? I am in the process of requesting new infrastructure to replace our existing DB and Polling engines and would like to get an idea of what I should request

My SQL box is Dual a dual quad-core blade with 10gb of RAM and 2 RAID 10 arrays on a SAN (DB files and temp DB) and 1 RAID 5 on a SAN for the logs.

The pollers are all dual quad-core blades with 4gb of ram and generally RAID 1 local drives. My pollers seem to top out at about 9000 elemenets when they hit that level they start having issues.
