Hi
In my environment SolarWind can't poll most Windows 2003 servers, however few servers have been discovered by the Solarwind.
Solarwind agent version 1.7.343.0
Can someone suggest any workaround.
All the agents are deployed in the server. Do I need to do any setting (couldn't find Orion server setting) from server end !
Have you tried by using wmi to poll windows instead of the agent?
Have you added the discovered agents to monitoring?
Go to Settings --> All Settings --> Managed agents and review the agent statuses, any newly found agents will be held here until you click the "Manage as Node" button.
If that doesn't work, you may also add agents here, using the Add Agent button.
I hope it helps
No, I haven't tried with wmi poll. Could you please help me to do that .
We were using agent and snmp for polling.
Thanks
There is no status of the agents . I am trying to proceed with the add agent but its showing agent is already installed. however i am trying to replace it , lets see if the add agent works.
will post further, thanks a lot in advance.
Have you checked that the correct ports are open? The agent uses specific ports for server communications, if they are not open you wont get them working. Opening ports includes Windows/Linux firewalls (that may be installed/configured on your Orion server and the servers with agents) and any other firewalls/network security devices between them.
This document details the agent requirements: SolarWinds SAM port requirements - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support. Look under the Agent section.
If you can have them all the ports the list open, then you don't need an agent!
But if you are using an agent, you must have TCP ports 17778, 17790 and 17791 open, between your Orion server and your agents. Look in the document for more details.
I can also recommend a program called Nmap: the Network Mapper - Free Security Scanner, a very handy tool for testing that ports are open and things are listening.
Installed on your Orion server, you can quickly establish if you have the correct ports open on your agents and visa versa.
For WMI, you need to ensure that you have access to a domain user account that will have access to the various namespaces on the target server. For testing on a single server, use a domain admin account to be absolutely sure your test will work (make sure you input the credentials when logged in to Orion directly on the server, or via a console session to the server, to ensure the credentials you add are secure).
If possible, choose a server you have not yet added, go to Discovery Central, and choose 'Add a single node'. Continue to add the node as normal, using the domain account with the relevant access (or a domain admin, as previously mentioned). If you see the 'Select Resources' screen, then you're good to go, as the account can access the server, and Orion can pull the required metrics via WMI.
That said, agents should work. Ensure TCP 17777 and 17778 are open between Orion and the server subnet (agent initiated communications) . For full details of ports required, see this link taken from the SolarWinds Success Centre.

It appears something is still blocking agent communication on the problem servers.
