Is SAM being a tease? " Add the node from the Manage Nodes page"

(SAM 5.2, SP1)

I'm trying to assign a template to a large number of nodes.

1) although I can group-by, the key fields I would want (polling engine, polling method, etc) are not available.

2) No worries, there's the reassuring message at the top: "Can't find the node you want to monitor? Add the node from the Manage Nodes page."

Except that when I click the page (taking me to the regular managed nodes page) there is no way (at least from what I can see) to take my selected nodes list and bring it back to the assign template page.

Am I missing something?

I'm afraid you're not missing anything. It's not possible today to group nodes by Polling Engine or Polling Method when assigning application templates. I've logged this as a feature request and it's being tracked internally under FB209496. In the meantime the only possible suggestion I could offer is to leverage custom properties for groupings or utilize the for more powerful application template assignment options.

So what is that link at the top of the page talking about? It SEEMS like it is saying you can drop back to the managed nodes page, then select stuff, then pull that selection list back into the "assign template" page.

For those who find this in years to come, my current work around is:

I have a custom property (if you've ready anything I've every posted, you KNEW that was coming, right?) named "selectme", which is a YES/NO field.
In managed nodes, I narrow down my list to the ones I want, and set the "selectme" property to "yes"
Back in SAM's assign tempalte page, I group by SelectMe, and pick the ones that are (now) set to "yes"
Remember to clear "selectme" later so you don't mix previously selected stuff.

The "Add the node from the Manage Nodes page" is really nothing more than it says. If a user was to try and assign an application template to a node that was not yet managed by Orion this link allows them quick access to do just that.

Ah, so "add the node" means "into SolarWinds" not "into this here list of devices to apply a template".

I submit to you that my original premise was true: SAM is being a tease.
