7.8 Update = Slowdown?

I recently upgraded from 7.7 to 7.8. We noticed a slowdown from 7.5 - 7.7, but since moving from 7.7 - 7.8 the slowdown on the system is immense.

We are now seeing 5 minute plus response times from clicking on a node to having the data returned.

The system is a HP DL320, running Windows 2000 Server. Wondering if anyone else has seen any slowdowns on the system since migrating to 7.8?

wow that's not good...thus far I am seeing constant improvements in performance... 7.5 - 7.7 - 7.8 have all equalled faster load times etc...

Try doing a: >Start>run> msinfo32
&
Post hardware info here.

How many nodes, Interface, Volumes?
What are your polling times set to?
Have you compacted the DB lately?

Are you monitoring your Orion server with Orion.
How much free memory. What's the CPU doing?

hi francis, after upgrade to 7.8 I saw performance emprovements but after a week performace degrades. can you look at the task manager and tell me how much memory is given to the DLLHOST.EXE process?

We are upgrading the memory two about 2GB. Have notcied since upgrading SQL Server is sitting on 370~ MB or used RAM and about 500MB of virtual memory.

The DLLHOST loaded into memory are taking up 2, 7, and 15MB or RAM respectivly.

This states that your '2GB of memory' is not recognized.

'Total Physical Memory 654,868 KB' should say
'Total Physical Memory 2.00 GB'

Drop the memory down below 2GB. Or you could try using the /3GB switch.... not sure if that will address the problem.

Your CPU's are 1Ghz faster than my DL380, but your RAM is much lower.

If you are running the DB on this server as well, then I suggest upping the RAM to at least 2Gb. I run 3Gb on mine with 675 nodes, 3500 interfaces, 61 volumes.
The DB uses 1.7Gb of Ram alone. I have seen the dllhost.exe up to 300Mb, but that usually indicates it's time to stop IIS, kill the process & restart IIS. Most of the time it's around 30-50Mb.

Also upgrading the server to Win2k3 seemed to improve performance - especially the web page serving.

Performance is good ~ up to 5 seconds to display node details, usually much faster.
Although if someone is running large reports, I really see things slow down though.

We are upgrading the system RAM but it's seems very strange that.

A. This problem only occurred when upgrading from 7.7, to 7.8
B. The Orion Manager Application itself runs perfectly fine (speed wise, and responce wise.)
C. Manually running reports with the report writer returns data without issue.

Taking into account what has happened since the upgrade and that way the system is behaving it's almost like the bottle neck is IIS.

I'm wondering if this slowdown could be due to a setting or change within the website. Question - if you disable the "Toolset Integration" for the account in question, does it help the performance of the website?

Thanks for the reply Josh. We've always disabled the toolset integration on all accounts. I've just recheck the accounts and yes all toolset integration is deactivated.

Have upgraded the server to 2.5GB of RAM. Have set the /3GB switch in boot.ini. The problem still exists.

Hi. I have also same problem. I am running three servers, one for SQL, one for remote webserver and the polling engine. My webserver is currently running on Windows 2000 SP4, Orion Webserver 7.8 3.6Ghz Xeon and 2Gb of RAM. When I click on the Alerts, I observe the my CPU goes up to 85%. My memory is steady.

Hi,
On our server the dllhost.exe grows from 30Mb to 360Mb in about 48 hours. When I kill the process and restart IIS it starts over again...?
Do any of You have a clue if it is a bug in the program or a problem that can be fixed?
We are running Orion version 7.8 on a server with 4 x Xeon 3.2Ghz and 2Gb RAM - DB is running on a seperate server.
