Orion NPM Question

Have 2 questions related to NPM configuration.

1. for the built in "open website" link and web link that shows in the node details, is there a way to customize that link to open another url? Example- our servers use HP Systems Management Agents and I'd like to customize those links to be able to open https://servername:2381 to go directly to the system management homepage for the HP agents..

2. for creating custom views, I'd like to have my physical HP Servers use a custom view but they all show up as "windows" servers in the view by device type vendor "web view" listing. Is there a way we can have this "view by device type" page also support custom groups of servers and device's we've already created? I'd like to not have my VM guests use the same custom view since there's universal device poller info not relevant to them like array/hard drive/memory and other physical characteristics? I had done one for my Emerson Liebert UPS's which worked out well because all the units show up as an Emerson Computer Power Object type....

Hope I can help....

1. I'm not a web programmer, but there is an Orion web resource that can do what you want here. On the Node Details page place the resource, "User Defined Links" from the Miscellaneous category. Then you can designate a list of up to 10 links, one of which can be the link you referenced. Just make sure to insert the ${IP} variable so that it will open the link to the specific node you have clicked on.

2. I think you are on the right track using the By Device Type approach to create a special view for a particular device, but make sure you enable the "By Device Type" option for the Node Details view type for EACH user you want to do this for. Also, make sure you have assigned the view to the device type on the Views By Device Type screen from the Web Administration page.

1. Helped- Used ${SysName} instead and works fine for the web links.

2. Not sure how to create a custom device type to modify the view for my windows servers to segregate the physical from the virtual ones. basically all the severs show up as generic "windows" devices but i'd like to group the physical HP servers seperate from the VM's so I can apply the hardware specific SNMP monitors for the HP servers.

Any other ideas on 2?

Do your virtual servers not show up on the Views By Device Type page as VMWare ESX? I see my VMWare servers listed as a separate device type from Windows 2003, or 2008, etc servers.

Correct- the VM Guests all show up under the Windows OS device grouping with my physical HP servers, not under a seperate VMWare ESX Type. The hosts show up as a VMWare ESX type
