SNMP Monitoring of Oracle servers

I am not sure whether to drop this in SAM or NPM, but I am having some difficulty in getting Oracle servers to respond to SNMP requests. My company utilizes an outside contractor to do a lot of the monitoring and managing of our Oracle servers, but I wanted to grab at least hardware health and basic statistics from the boxes. The servers themselves are in an HP c7000 Blade enclosure, and we are running Oracle 11G. The Oracle Admins have told me that SNMP is now set up using version 2c, and that it is polling on port 199 but I can't get a positive result on a node test.

Has anyone out there run into this and does anyone have any advice?

We have Oracle servers also running on IBM servers. We had to have the IBM administrators install SNMP on the servers, and enable the SNMP service, before we were able to monitor everything correctly. If you are using a Unix OS, make sure your AIX administrators have installed SNMP and turned the service on, same thing applies to the Wndows OS, the services need to be installed and running.

Our Unix administrators have said hte service is on and running, they confirmed I entered the community string correctly and they confirmed the SNMP port (199) and they confirmed that it was v2c. I am still unable to poll.

Have them also check what Networks, or IP address are allowed to poll the machine. In the SNMP config file, they need to check the settings for allowed devices. Also, they may want to check their firewall rules to be sure your polling engines IP addresses are authorized to transverse the firewall on the machine.

Curious question, why are they not using the standard SNMP port of 161? Remember SNMP uses UDP.
