Why does an app status go into an unknown state?

I have an alert setup to go off anytime an app goes into anything but up. I always get an alert about unknown status sometimes followed by critical and then the component.

Is there any documentation on what makes an app go into unknown, warning or critical?

Hi,

A component goes to unknown when APM is not able to find out if what is being monitored is down/up/critical/warning.

This can happen if the server is unreachable or when APM cannot finish the test for an internal or external reason. There is usually an information/error message going along when a component is unknown.

A component goes in Warning\Critical when it is above the threshold you configured.

I am not sure if this is detailed in the Admin guide but you can have a look and check:

The problem I was having was that Apps would go into an unknown status. My alerts were setup so that anything but up would trip an alert.

I found out from support there is a known issue where that was going on. I am awaiting a hot fix now.
