Let me preface this by saying, I really, really miss the old alerting apps in SAM.....I've spent far, far too many *hours* trying to get alerts to work with the new methodology, for alerts that would have taken me *minutes* in the old version of SAM......
In this particular case, I'm trying to set up a service restart. I followed the instructions from this page: Monitor, Alert and Restart a Windows Service from SAM - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support
One thing that isn't clear to me in the instructions, is in the 'specify something like as follows:' image example, is whether the 'component type' is supposed to be the numerical component designation SAM displays at the end of the URL for the component page. I operated under the assumption that this is what was meant, but it is rather vague.
Anyway, it didn't work. The email alert associated with the service template triggered fine, but the service never restarted. I have no idea why. Is there a log or something I could investigate as to why it didn't fire off? Or even better, is there an easier way to do this?
